Homeschooling in the Australian Capital Territory
Homeschooling in the ACT is legal, supported, and growing. Canberra families are increasingly choosing home education for a wide range of reasons, from neurodivergence and school refusal to simply wanting a different kind of childhood for their children.
How to Register in the ACT
Registration is through the ACT Education Directorate. You submit a learning plan covering the required learning areas and provide an annual progress report. The ACT's approach is collaborative rather than bureaucratic once families are in the system. ACT home educators cover the Australian Curriculum's key learning areas using whatever approach works best for their child.
What Learning Looks Like in the ACT
Canberra is an extraordinary city for home educators. The National Museum, the Australian War Memorial, the National Gallery, Parliament House, the National Botanic Gardens. These are not just field trips. For ACT families, they are part of the curriculum. History, civics, science, and the arts are all accessible in person, in ways that most Australian families have to travel a long way to experience.
How Access Learning Supports ACT Families
Access Learning generates ACT-specific compliance reports. Daily learning plans, Kye as AI tutor, personalised podcasts, and 3D modelling are all included. Our Real Life Learning feature lets you document excursions to Canberra's many cultural institutions as curriculum evidence, connecting those visits directly to the Australian Curriculum content descriptors your registration requires.
