Homeschooling in New South Wales
Homeschooling in NSW has more than doubled in the past five years. In 2019 there were around 5,900 registered home educated children. By 2024 that number had grown to over 12,700. Something is shifting. Families across New South Wales are deciding that there is another way.
How to Register to Homeschool in NSW
In New South Wales, home education is registered through NESA — the NSW Education Standards Authority. You will need to submit an application that outlines how your child's education will cover the key learning areas of the Australian Curriculum. NESA reviews registrations and conducts periodic assessments. The process is manageable. Many families feel nervous about it at first and find it much more straightforward than they expected.
