Northern Territory
Homeschooling in the Northern Territory
The Northern Territory has one of the most flexible approaches to home education in Australia. Families across Darwin, Alice Springs, and the regions in between are choosing to educate their children at home, and the process for getting started is more straightforward than many expect.
How to Register in the NT
Registration is through the NT Department of Education. You submit a registration application covering the Australian Curriculum key learning areas, and it is reviewed annually. The NT has a reputation for being one of the more accessible states for home education registration. NT home educators have genuine flexibility in how they cover the required learning areas. There is no requirement to follow a specific program or replicate a school timetable.
What Learning Looks Like in the NT
The Northern Territory's landscape, climate, and rich First Nations heritage offer extraordinary opportunities for outdoor and place-based learning. Many NT families weave the natural world directly into their curriculum. A study of local ecosystems becomes science. Learning about the traditional custodians of the land becomes HASS. The Territory offers things no classroom can replicate.
How Access Learning Supports NT Families
Access Learning includes NT-specific compliance reporting. Daily learning plans are personalised to your child's year level and mapped to the Australian Curriculum. Kye is available throughout the day to answer questions and encourage curiosity. Our Real Life Learning feature makes it easy to document outdoor and community-based learning as curriculum evidence, which matters for families in the Territory where life outside is often the richest classroom of all.
